Add this month’s adjustments (optional)
Copy the per-unit FCA and QTA from your bill or our adjustments log. Use a minus sign for a reduction. Some consumers (e.g. lifeline) are excluded from some adjustments.
How the estimate is worked out
- Find your rate. It depends on your units this month and whether you are lifeline, protected or unprotected — see the MEPCO tariff table.
- Apply the slab rule. Protected consumers above 100 units pay the first 100 units at the lower rate. Unprotected and lifeline consumers pay every unit at their slab’s rate.
- Add the fixed charge if you are unprotected and above 300 units (Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 a month).
- Add adjustments you enter: units × FCA per unit, units × QTA per unit.
Example (ours, current rates): an unprotected home using 305 units pays 305 × Rs 37.99 = Rs 11,586.95, plus a Rs 200 fixed charge = Rs 11,786.95 before adjustments and taxes. At 300 units it would be 300 × Rs 33.10 = Rs 9,930 with no fixed charge — five extra units cost about Rs 1,857.
Why your real bill will differ
- Taxes are added to the electricity charge; this calculator does not include them.
- Adjustments change every month (FCA) and quarter (QTA), and not every consumer pays every adjustment. Recent amounts are in the adjustments log.
- Arrears, instalments, surcharges or credits from earlier bills.
- Status changes: going over 200 units once makes a protected home unprotected for six months.
- Estimated bills: a defective-meter bill is estimated from last year’s use, not this month’s.
