Getting a New MEPCO Electricity Connection

MEPCO applicants are now directed to the MEPCO Smart app, the PowerSmart app or eOps, or a MEPCO customer facilitation centre — the national ENC website tells MEPCO users not to apply there. After a site survey you get a demand notice to pay, and NEPRA sets the maximum number of days MEPCO has for each step.

Where to apply

  • MEPCO Smart app — published on Google Play by PITC, which also runs MEPCO’s online bill and complaint systems.
  • PowerSmart app or eOps — also PITC apps, named in the same notice.
  • A MEPCO customer facilitation centre — apply in person.

MEPCO’s own new connection page still points to the ENC website and offers a paper form, and many guides online also say to use ENC. The ENC notice is the more recent instruction; if in doubt, ask at your facilitation centre.

Which category you are in

NEPRA sorts new connections by load (Consumer Service Manual, clause 2.10.1):

CategoryLoad
1up to 15 kW
2above 15 kW up to 70 kW
3above 70 kW up to 500 kW
4above 500 kW up to 5 MW
566 kV and above

What the paper form asks for

MEPCO’s downloadable form (single-phase, up to 4 kW, in Urdu) asks for the applicant’s name, father’s or husband’s name, CNIC number, address, the address to be connected, whether you are the owner or a tenant — a tenant attaches the owner’s consent with proof of ownership — and a list of appliances with the total load. The app may ask for documents in a different way; follow what it shows.

The demand notice

After your application and site survey, MEPCO issues a demand notice for the cost of the connection. NEPRA’s manual gives 30 days to pay, and a further 30-day grace period may be allowed (clause 2.4.3). The amount depends on your load, distance from the network and any extra work, so a fixed “fee” quoted online is unlikely to match yours.

Pay only through the official bank or bill channel shown on the demand notice. PITC warns consumers never to send money for new connections or meters through Easypaisa, JazzCash or bank transfer to an individual’s account, and to report such requests to 118 (PITC notice).

How long MEPCO has

NEPRA’s Consumer Service Manual (Annex III) sets the maximum days for MEPCO’s own steps — registration and survey, cost estimate and demand notice, work order and materials, and meter installation:

CategoryTotal days for MEPCO’s steps
1 (up to 15 kW)30
2 (15–70 kW)44
3 (70–500 kW)58

These totals do not include the time you take to pay the demand notice or submit documents. If MEPCO goes well past them, you can complain — see MEPCO complaints and helpline.
