Paying a MEPCO Bill in Instalments
MEPCO can split a bill into instalments if the right officer approves it and you sign an affidavit promising to pay the instalments and your future bills. Who can approve depends on the amount; MEPCO’s own FAQ sets the limits below.
Last verified: 2 October 2026 against the MEPCO FAQs. The FAQ page is undated, so confirm the current limits at your sub-division before you go. Independent guide, not affiliated with MEPCO, PITC or NEPRA.
Who approves, according to MEPCO
| Bill amount | Approving officer | Instalments |
|---|---|---|
| up to Rs 5,000 | Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) | 3 equal monthly |
| up to Rs 50,000 | Executive Engineer (XEN) | 3 |
| up to Rs 100,000 | Superintending Engineer (SE) | 4 |
| above that | Chief Executive Officer (CEO) | up to 6 |
You will find different limits on other websites. We publish MEPCO’s own figures.
How to apply
- Go to your MEPCO sub-division office with the bill and your CNIC, ideally well before the due date.
- Ask for instalments; your amount decides which officer approves (table above).
- Sign the affidavit MEPCO requires — a commitment to pay the instalments and your current bills.
- Pay each instalment with the bill it is added to. Ask the office what happens if one is missed.
If you pay late
If a bill is not paid by the due date, a late-payment surcharge is added; the amount payable after the due date is printed on the bill. Long-unpaid bills can lead to disconnection, and MEPCO’s FAQ says reconnection requires clearing all arrears, an affidavit, an updated security deposit and a new agreement.
We have not found an official source for due-date extension limits, so we do not publish them. Ask at your sub-division.
If the bill itself is wrong
Do not ask for instalments on a bill you believe is incorrect — get it corrected first. See why a MEPCO bill may be too high and how to make a MEPCO complaint.
